Past
I grew up in New Delhi, India and moved to the Netherlands to pursue a bachelors in Industrial Design at TU Eindhoven. Having spent my childhood and teenage in India, I didn’t grow up with a lot of the t.v. shows or comic books that my friends in college grew up with. I grew up with indigenous mythological stories in which the divine was revealed through a myriad of form and narratives, and each embodied a distinct truth that refused the constraints of singularity. This multispecies storytelling has always prompted me to recognise and celebrate many perspectives that coexist, fostering empathy and interconnectedness among all life forms.
When I had the opportunity to move to The Netherlands, I chose to study industrial design as a way of combining my interests in mathematics and physics with hobbies such as illustrations and dance. Over the course of my study, my background, enriched by the exposure and mentorship I received during the masters’, has broadened my perception of design as a practice that is inclusive, relational, and responsive to the more than human world. It has shifted my view of design from merely solving human problems to a field that encompasses creating environments and systems where human exceptionalism must give way to collaboration and networks of care and multiple forms of life can coexist. In the following, I summarise the learning and competence development from relevant courses and projects I enrolled in the past two years.
